Pepe to leave Porto? Fabrizio Romano provides a groundbreaking update on the veteran defender’s future

Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on whether Pepe will leave FC Porto. The 41-year-old, despite his age, was a key player for the Liga Portugal club during the 2023–24 season. He made 34 appearances across competitions.

Pepe re-joined Porto in 2019 and has since been a mainstay in their defense. However, as per Romano, the veteran could leave in the summer. Sergio Conceicao has recently parted ways with Porto. That could see Pepe leaving the club as well. Romano reported on X:

“Pepe could really leave Porto as free agent, it’s concrete possibility after Sérgio Conceição’s exit. There are still some formal steps to clarify and some details before final decision.”

Pepe is a part of Portugal’s squad for the upcoming Euro 2024. Hence, any decision regarding his future might come after the tournament, set to take place in Germany. As of right now, there’s no tipped destination for the legendary center-back.

Clubs Pepe has played for in his career

Pepe is best known for his spells with Porto and Real Madrid. He also played for Besiktas and Maritimo in his career. Pepe started his career with Maritimo before joining Porto in 2004. He played three seasons at Porto before joining Real Madrid in 2007. Pepe made 334 appearances for Real Madrid.

He has won 15 trophies with Real Madrid, including three Champions League titles and three La Liga trophies. He has also won 16 trophies with Porto across two spells. Pepe was a part of the Portugal team that won the Euro 2016. Since making his international debut in 2007, Pepe has so far made 136 appearances.
