Poland will take on Austria in their second group-stage clash at the UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany.

Both sides lost their respective first games of the tournament. Poland put up a good fight against the Netherlands and opened the scoring through Adam Buksa. However, Cody Gakpo and Wout Weghorst scored to ensure a 2-1 win for the Dutch.

Austria, meanwhile, also put in an excellent performance against favorites France in their first game. They even maintained more possession than Les Bleus but Maximilian Wober scored an own goal in the 38^th minute to secure a 1-0 win for France.

The two sides now sit at the bottom of Group D at Euro 2024 and need a win to remain in the hunt for the knockout places. Hence, their clash on Friday is a crucial one for both sides.

Robert Lewandowski

Adam Buksa put in a decent performance for Poland against the Netherlands, but captain and talisman Robert Lewandowski will certainly get back into the starting XI against Austria. The Barcelona striker is Poland’s all-time top scorer with 81 goals and 33 assists in 149 games.

Lewandowski was also in terrific form for Barcelona towards the end of the 2023-24 season, registering 26 goals and nine assists in 49 appearances. With a win absolutely necessary, Poland will look towards their talisman to put in a big performance in Berlin.

Marcel Sabitzer

Sabitzer didn’t have as big of an impact as he would’ve liked against France, despite Austria performing well overall. However, they will look to their captain to step up in a must-win game against Poland.

Sabitzer has made 79 appearances for Austria over the years, recording 17 goals and 13 assists. He also had a decent season with Borussia Dortmund, where he made 40 appearances, scoring six goals and providing nine assists.

Poland vs Austria Prediction

Both sides put in respectable performances against tough opponents in their previous game. However, Poland could’ve easily lost by a bigger margin if not for the Netherlands’ poor finishing. They lacked an attacking edge, which should be eased a little by Robert Lewandowski’s arrival.

Meanwhile, Austria will look to control the game as they did against France. They were the better side in some parts but lacked the clinical edge. If they could replicate a similar performance, though, they should be able to see off Poland.
