Premier League Top Scorer: Latest Golden Boot Standings After Gameweek 23

The Premier League has arguably been the most competitive this season than it ever has in its nearly 30-year long history. With just seven points separating first and fifth, as well as just seven points between sixth and 11th, this season has been a great watch for neutral fans.

Liverpool are the frontrunners slightly past the midway mark of the campaign, leading the league with 51 points from 23 games. Manchester City (22 games) and Arsenal are hot on their pursuit with 49 points apiece, with the Cityzens having a game in hand.

Now, as teams enter the final months of the campaign, scoring goals carries more value than ever, with each goal carrying the potential to make or break a season. Some goals might take teams closer to the top and winning silverware, while others could be teams’ last bit of action in the top-flight.

On that note, let’s take a look at the Premier League’s Golden Boot leaders after Gameweek 23.

Mohamed Salah | Liverpool | 14 Goals

Mohamed Salah has been in sublime form for Liverpool this season and has been their best players by a country-mile. He has made 20 appearances in the league – all starts – and has bagged 14 goals and eight assists in the process. Despite missing over a month due to his involvement with Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations, Salah retains his top spot on the list.

Overall, the 31-year-old is having a great season with 18 goals and nine assists in 27 appearances, averaging a goal contribution every game. He scores at the rate of a goal every 125 minutes in the league and will look to return from injury so he can help the Reds in the run-in.

Erling Haaland | Manchester City | 14 Goals

Haaland has been in and out of Manchester City’s starting XI this season owing to injury concerns and layoffs. However, he has made 17 appearances in the Premier League for the Cityzens, starting in 16 of those. In those games, the Norwegian has bagged 14 goals and also provided five assists. He averages a goal every 100 minutes in the PL and will look to better that.

Despite playing in just 23 games across competitions so far this season, Haaland has 19 goals and five assists as he averages just over one goal contribution per appearance. With City playing catch-up to Liverpool in the league table, they will need their top marksman firing on all cylinders towards the end of the season.

Dominic Solanke | Bournemouth | 13 Goals

Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke finds himself among the big boys after an incredible start to the campaign. The Englishman has bagged 13 goals and one assist in 22 appearances so far, and was also linked with moves away from the club in January. He averages a goal every 151 minutes in the league and his goals have been crucial in carrying the Cherries up to 12th place.

Overall, Dominic Solanke has scored 15 goals and provided two assists in 26 games across competitions for his team. He has already scored more than double of the seven goals he achieved throughout last season and will look to finish strong.

Tottenham’s South Korean sensation has been a vital piece for Ange Postecoglou’s side, despite his limited availability in recent weeks. Son is away representing his nation at the AFC Asian Cup and should return in the second week of February.

Son has bagged 12 goals and five assists in 20 Premier League games so far this season. He averages a goal every 142 minutes and has helped Spurs hover around the top four despite suffering several injuries at once. He has also made one appearance in the EFL Cup but did not score or assist in that game.

Ollie Watkins | Aston Villa | 11 Goals

Watkins has the most unique stat-line on this list, especially for a striker. Having made 23 Premier League appearances this season, Watkins has 11 goals and 10 assists for Villa, helping them register themselves as an outsider in the title race.

He has developed into one of the most complete strikers in the world in the last couple of years, with Europe’s top clubs including PL rivals Arsenal keeping tabs on him.

Overall, Ollie Watkins has 16 goals and 12 assists in 32 appearances for Aston Villa so far this season. His involvement and availability will be crucial for Unai Emery’s side.
