Premier League Top Scorers: Latest Golden Boot Standings After Gameweek 24

Last season’s winner, Erling Haaland, returns after injuring his ankle, and missing over two months of game time. But nothing has changed; a double on his Premier League return sends a strong message to his contenders that he is back. His return for City’s 2-0 win over Everton was his first full-time impact since late November. The Norwegian’s hunger seems emphatic, and it appears he aims for a similar 36-league-goal mark this season as well.

However, Mohamed Salah’s return came as a surprise after equaling the City number 10, before leaving for the African Cup of Nations. Sadly, the Egyptian won’t feature yet for Liverpool due to an ankle injury.

It seems to be an open fight for this season’s Premier League top scorer. Dominic Solanke leads with 13 goals, while Son is just behind with 12, even after returning from the Asian Cup. Both Jarrod Bowen and Ollie Watkins have 11 each. Hee-chan Hwang has 10, joined by Alexander Isak and Richarlison. Chelsea’s Cole Palmer and Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka round out the list with 10 goals each.

Since Harry Kane left for Germany, it’s fair to say Haaland still faces some competition in England. The 2022/23 season saw a record-breaking climax for Haaland as he set a new Premier League record of 36 goals, which he aims for again.

Below are the Premier League’s top scorers this season:

Erling Haaland I Manchester City I 16 Goals

Returning from injury, Haaland meant business, but coming in as a substitute in the second half against Burnley and for 86 minutes versus Brentford did give us a few doubts. However, talents feed on criticism, which the Norwegian did, scoring two goals past Everton to give him a cushion in the Premier League Golden Boot race, securing the top spot.

In the Premier League, the City striker has 16 goals and five assists from 18 games and will be looking to defend his accolade this season as well.

Mohamed Salah I Liverpool I 14 Goals

Mohamed Salah has been steadily ascending the ladder with calmness and smoothness, consistently delivering for Liverpool. He was a majestic presence for the Reds before he departed for the AFCON Cup and subsequent injury. The Egyptian’s brace against Newcastle on New Year’s Day took his tally to 14 goals in 20 Premier League games, joining Haaland as the top scorer at that point in the season.

Dominic Solanke I Bournemouth I 13 Goals

A surprise Premier League Golden Boot contender this season is Bournemouth’s player Solanke. The Englishman scored his first Premier League hat-trick in a 3-2 win against Nottingham Forest, and a goal against Manchester United in a comfortable win at Old Trafford stands out as one of his standout performances so far this season. Overall, he has scored 13 goals and provided 2 assists in 23 games for Bournemouth. His consistency will be put to the test in the second half of the season.

The new captain of Spurs Heung Min Son has been leading the team forward since the armband was placed on his biceps. The influential Korean has been involved in every positive aspect for his side prior to the Asian Cup. His goal against Bournemouth on New Year’s Eve brought his Premier League stats to 12 goals and 6 assists in 21 games. We believe that a challenge awaits the 2021/22 EPL Golden Boot winner.

Jarrod Bowen I West Ham United I 11 Goals

A flying start to the season saw Jarrod Bowen’s firepower slow after a recent humiliation by Arsenal in a 0-6 thumping. His last Premier League goal goes way back to a 2-0 win over Manchester United on December 23rd. This leaves him with 11 goals and 2 assists in 23 games to his name and hope for a solid return after the nightmare of last week.
