Chaos erupted after the French Cup PSG vs Rennes semifinal as Kylian Mbappe and Warmed Omari exchanged words while shaking hands after PSG’s 1-0 win.
PSG vs Rennes French Cup semifinal ends in chaos:
Luis Enrique’s PSG advanced to the Coupe de France final as they beat Stade Renne 1-0 at the Parc des Princes in the semifinals of the French Cup. However, a confrontation involving PSG’s Kylian Mbappe at the end of play has now overshadowed the Parisian victory.
A few minutes after the game as PSG players thanked the crowd and shook hands with the Renne players, Warmed Omari walked up to Mbappe to shake his hand. As the duo quickly shook hands and exchanged some quick words, Kylian moved forward, but something seemed to have enraged Omari. The French defender attempted to follow Mbappe and confront him, but was held down by several PSG players surrounding the striker.
Things seemed to de escalate slowly as an unfazed Kylian Mbappe walked towards the tunnel, but an angry Omari broke through the shackles of PSG players and followed Mbappe to the tunnel. While Mbappe disappeared down the tunnel, Omari kept shouting and trying to get past people. It remains unknown what the reason for Omari’s angry reaction was, but given their tussle throughout the game it seems that the Rennes defender was annoyed and wanted to fight the French striker.
A Kylian Mbappe goal powers the Parisians to victory:
The Coupe de France PSG vs Rennes semifinal was touted to be a thriller and despite seeing only one goal, it certainly didn’t disappoint. Early in the game, the intimidating PSG attack started entering the Renne box through several avenues but failed to score. As French star Mbappe got more involved in the game, he proved to be a headache to the Warmed Omari defense. As the leader of the Rennes defense, he followed Mbappe around and eventually squandered a golden opportunity to the Parisians as he committed a penalty after a foul on Mbappe.
Unsurprisingly, PSG’s main man Mbappe stepped up to take the penalty with an experienced Steve Mandanda in goal for Renne. The veteran keeper managed to guess in which direction the France captain would shoot and to everybody’s surprise pulled off an impressive save. However, the astonishing save kept the game at par only for three minutes before Kylian Mbappe scored a beautiful goal for PSG. Mamba mentality to say the least.
Both sides continued to attack in the second half, but Kylian’s goal proved enough for PSG to win the tie. A victory in the PSG vs Rennes semifinal saw the Parisians advance to the final of the cup where they will face Olympique Lyon.
