PSG vs Rennes Preview
Tournament: UEFA Europa League
Date: Wednesday, September 27, 2024
Time: 7:00 pm GMT
Venue: Parc des Princes
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is set to host Rennes at the Parc des Princes in Ligue 1 on Friday. The Parisians did lose their superstar attacker Kylian Mbappe, as he left as a free agent and joined Real Madrid. However, they have still had an excellent start to the campaign as they look to defend their Ligue 1 title.
PSG have won four and drawn one of their five league games so far and sit atop the table. They have also begun their UEFA Champions League campaign well, beating Girona 1-0 in their opening game.
Rennes, meanwhile, have won two, lost two, and drawn one of their five league game this season. They finished 10th last season and currently sit eighth and will look to maintain or better their position.

Key Players to watch in PSG vs Rennes
Joao Neves
Despite PSG boasting of great attacking talent like Bradley Barcola and Ousmane Dembele, it’s the young midfielder Joao Neves, who’s caught everyone’s attention. The Parisians signed the 19-year-old for around €60 million from Benfica in the summer and he’s been excellent so far.
Neves, who plays as a central midfielder, has provided five assists in five Ligue 1 games and tops the assists charts. His composure on the ball and tenacity off it has been key for PSG’s dominance this season.
Ludovic Blas
The French forward, who can play multiple positions, has mostly operated as a right winger or a centre-forward this season. He is the top scorer and top assist-provider for Rennes this season with two each in five Ligue 1 games.
Ludovic Blas has overall scored just nine goals and provided three assists in 47 games for Rennes since arriving from Nantes last summer. Hence, he will be keen to continue his good start to the season.
PSG vs Rennes Prediction
PSG have largely been excellent this season, dominating matches and offering a consistent attacking threat through different channels. They beat Le Havre, Montpellier, LOSC Lille, and Brest comfortably.
However, they have shown signs of vulnerability in their last two games. They narrowly beat Girona 1-0 in the UEFA Champions League before drawing 1-1 against Reims in Ligue 1. They still dominated both games but failed to convert more of their chances.
Rennes, meanwhile, started their season well by beating Lyon 3-0 but then lost against Strasbourg and Reims. They then beat Montpellier 3-0 before drawing against RC Lens. Hence, they have been a bit inconsistent this season so far.
While Rennes are likely to offer a big test, PSG should still see them through at home. With Marseille and Monaco on the same points as them, the Parisians could also ill-afford to drop points in the title race.
Predicted Score: PSG 3-1 Rennes (Watch Live)
