Ralf Rangnick turns down high-profile manager role ahead of EURO 2024

Rangnick Rejects Bayern Munich Offer, Commits to Austria

Ralf Rangnick has rejected the opportunity to replace Thomas Tuchel as Bayern manager as his focus lies completely with Austria.

Bayern Munich had discussed a deal which involved Rangnick stepping down from the Austria post before the EURO 2024.

As per reports, Rangnick is very keen to complete his contract with Austria until its last day in 2026 and is all focused on leading them.

Moreover, Rangnick was the third choice after Xabi Alonso of Bayer Leverkusen and Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann- who turned them down.

‘I’m the Austrian team coach with all my heart. This is not a rejection of Bayern, but rather a decision for my team and our common goals,’ Rangnick told the Austrian news.

“I would like to expressly stress that this is not a rejection of FC Bayern, but a decision in favor of my team and our common goals.”

This decision is an embarrassing blow for Bayern, whose officials had been expressing admiration for the 65-year-old in recent days.

Bayern president Herbert Hainer added that.“He has huge skills in developing players and teams. Everything I hear from people around the Austrian national team is very, very positive. And we ourselves have players who work under him,”

“If he were to come, he would be a very good choice for us.” Rangnick emerged as the sole favourite to replace Thomas Tuchel as plan A and B did not make way with even Unai Emery opting to stay at Aston Villa.

Tuchel will leave the club at the end of the season on mutual terms after February’s results that saw the German giants winless in three games. Moreover, Leverkusen ended Bayern’s 11-year domestic dominance and the Champions League is the only hope for Tuchel to prevent a trophy-less season.
