Real Betis vs Getafe Preview and Prediction

Real Betis vs Getafe Match Preview

Seventh placed Real Betis will host 10th placed Getafe in La Liga on Sunday, February 4. In a tight mid-table with just seven points between 10th and sixth place, this will be a crucial game.

Hosts Betis enter this match with 34 points from 22 games, but on the back of a mixed run of form. They have won just thrice in their last 10 games across competitions, losing four and drawing three. This includes two wins and three losses in their last five, with their last outing being a narrow 1-0 win at Mallorca. With the Europa Conference League knockouts set to begin in February, Real Betis will hope to get some crucial wins in La Liga before their schedule gets congested.

Getafe, on the other hand, have 29 points from 21 games and have a game in hand on the five teams above them, including Betis. They too have been on a rollercoaster in terms of form, but are slightly better off than their next opponents. They have won half of their last 10 games, losing four and drawing one of the remaining five. Getafe’s last game was a 2-0 win at home to 19th placed Granada but they are likely to face a much tougher challenge this time around.

With that said, let’s take a look at the team news for both sides.

Manuel Pellegrini has had many a headache in recent weeks regarding team selection, with several players injured or away on national duty. Their recent dip in form is a testament to their thinning squad, but the team have fought back in recent weeks.

A total of eight players missed Real Betis’ last game through injury, with center-back German Pezzella making it nine after he was subbed off at half-time in the last match. The injury list includes key players Ayoze Perez, William Carvalho and Marc Bartra, among others. Meanwhile, Marc Roca and Aitor Ruibal are facing the risk of suspension with four yellow cards already to their name in La Liga.

This has led Pellegrini to rotate his squad a lot in recent weeks. However, the return of Chadi Riad and Abde Ezzalzouli following Morocco’s elimination from the AFCON will help the Chilean. The former will likely be included in the starting XI as well.

Predicted XI: Rui Silva (GK), Hector Bellerin, Chadi Riad, Sokratis, Abner Vinicius, Sergi Altimara, Johnny, Luiz Henrique, Isco, Assane Diao, Nabil Fekir (C).

Getafe

Manager Jose Bordalas has had his fair share of squad troubles as well, with multiple players getting sent off in the past few weeks. Injuries and absences have been few and far between, but the manager will likely field his strongest XI.

Mauro Arambarri remains sidelined long-term with a cruciate ligament injury and is likely to miss the rest of the season. Meanwhile, midfielder Ilaix Moriba is away representing Guinea at the AFCON, with his nation into the quarter-finals.

Carles Alena, Omar Alderete and Gaston Alvarez are all at the risk of facing a suspension for accumulation of cards, with four to their name already. However, they all featured in the last game and are likely to do so in the next one. Luis Milla, too, will return from suspension.

Predicted XI: David Soria (GK), Juan Iglesias, Dakonam Djene (C), Omar Alderete, Diego Rico, Mason Greenwood, Nemanja Maksimovic, Luis Milla, Jordi Martin, Jaime Mata, Borja Mayoral.

As you can see, recent meetings between Real Betis and Getafe have been very tightly fought games, with none of their last five seeing more than two goals. Betis edge the head-to-head with two wins to Getafe’s one, with the teams sharing two draws.

The teams faced each other thrice in La Liga in the last calendar year, with the away side winning on two of those occasions. Meanwhile, the hosts have lost just once in their last five home games, while the visitors have won just once in their last five travels.

The visitors will have the in-form Mason Greenwood to watch out for, with a goal in his last game. The winger will look to get on the scoresheet once again away at Betis.

This points towards another close encounter and could be another score draw with the hosts struggling with injuries.

Prediction: Real Betis 1-1 Getafe.
