Real Madrid vs Sevilla Preview

La Liga leaders Real Madrid will host 15th-placed Sevilla at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday, February 25.

The hosts enter this contest on the back of a formidable run of form. They are undefeated in their last seven games across competitions, winning five and drawing two of those. In that phase, Los Blancos have scored 14 goals and conceded just five as they stretched their lead to the top to six points over Girona. Real’s last game was a disappointing 1-1 draw away to Rayo Vallecano as Daniel Carvajal received a late red card. They were looking to make amends in their next game.

The visitors, on the other hand, are in an inconsistent spell of form currently. They have recorded two wins, two draws and two defeats in their last six across competitions. In that time, Sevilla have scored just five goals and conceded a worrying eight goals as they continue to slip down the table. Their last outing was a goalless draw away at Valencia and they will look to put their best foot forward against Real.

On that note, let’s take a look at the team news coming out of both camps.

Carlo Ancelotti will be without defenders Eder Militao and David Alaba, as well as custodian Thibaut Courtois, all of whom will miss the rest of the season with ACL injuries. Meanwhile, Jude Bellingham will miss the game with an ankle sprain.

Elsewhere, captain and defender Daniel Carvajal will miss this game after his sending off in the last one. He will mostly be replaced by Lucas Vazquez in the XI.

Manager Quique Sanchez Flores will have a major selection headache ahead of the next game. At least seven players will be unavailable for selection as the injury list shows no signs of shortening.

Key players Lucas Ocampos (unknown), Marcos Acuna (hip) and Erik Lamela (doubt) are all part of the list of those sidelined as Flores will be left with a big shortage.

Meanwhile, Jesus Navas, Sergio Ramos, Suso, Ocampos and Djibril Sow have all been booked four times apiece this season. Should any of them pick up another, they will be suspended for one game.
