Reece James and Christopher Nkunku back in training for Chelsea
Chelsea stars Reece James and Christopher Nkunku are back in training. The pair were seen participating in a full-team training session today as they could be expected to return from their respective injuries.
It’s been another injury-riddled campaign for James, who has made only eight appearances in the Premier League for the Blues this season. He sustained a hamstring injury in August, missing out for two months, and then underwent hamstring surgery in December, getting sidelined thereafter.
As for Nkunku, the Frenchman has endured a difficult first season with Chelsea, owing to lengthy injury spells. He has missed a total of 23 games, and played only seven in the Premier League, scoring twice. Signed on a £52 million transfer from RB Leipzig last summer, Nkunku hasn’t been able to live up to the expectations due to his fitness issues.
Now, both him and James are on their road to recovery, as they were pictured training with their Chelsea teammates. While it spells good news for embattled manager Mauricio Pochettino, he may be cautious against throwing them at the deep and hence could only start them on the bench against Aston Villa if deemed fit.
Chelsea have a number of injury concerns right now, with Ben Chilwell, Malo Gusto, Romeo Lavia and Enzo Fernandez all currently injured.
Chelsea looking to pick themselves up from Arsenal thrashing
Following their FA Cup exit at the hands of Manchester City on Saturday, Chelsea were crushed 5-0 by Arsenal in the Premier League. It was their biggest loss to the Gunners in the competition as their flaws were ruthlessly exposed once again. With the high-flying Aston Villa up next, there seems to be no respite for the London side right now.
