The Red Devils are interested in signing the first Mozambique star in Premier League history. Manchester United are weighing a move for Atletico Madrid left-back Reindildo ahead of the summer transfer window.
Reinildo transfer: Why are Manchester United interested in signing him this summer?
The left-back position in the Manchester United squad looks depleted this season, as both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia struggled with long-term injuries. Malacia has been out for the entirety of the campaign whereas Shaw was limited to only 15 appearances.
According to Sun, United are actively monitoring Atletico Madrid defender Reinildo who has only a year left on his contract. The 30-year-old defender could be available for £8 million ($10m) this summer.
Juventus and Aston Villa are also keeping tabs on the defender who has managed only seven La Liga starts this campaign. Reinildo endured an ACL injury in February 2023 that ruled him out until November.
The former Lille man could definitely add some depth required in United’s defensive department. But Villa has a slight edge over Man United as they can offer the defender Champions League football.
Manchester United fans will witness a major squad overhaul this summer, prioritizing the left-back position and having been linked with other players like Melvin Bard and Rayan Ait-Nouri.
Under-fire manager Erik Ten Hag confirmed last week that signing a left-back is one of the club’s top priorities.
Ten Hag said: “Left back depends on availability from Luke Shaw, he will be fit.
“He is returning already on the pitch, we expect him back in coming weeks, but with Malacia it depends on his availability.”
If Reinildo secures a move to Manchester United in the summer window, he will become the first player from Mozambique to play in the Premier League.
