Rio Ferdinand reveals contents of Cristiano Ronaldo call before rejoining Manchester United

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand revealed a conversation he had with Cristiano Ronaldo before the latter rejoined Manchester United back in 2021. The Portuguese legend came back to the club but left on bad terms after a mixed 18 months at Old Trafford.

Ferdinand was featured in a video on Ronaldo’s new, booming YouTube channel, where he spoke about the striker’s second stint with the Red Devils. When leaving Juventus in 2021, Ronaldo was mulling his options. Manchester City were rumoured to be front runners but United swooped in late to sign him back. As per Ferdinand, it was around this time that he received a call from Ronaldo.

“We spoke on the phone when you were going to go and sign at Man United when you were negotiating to come back, and my wife wanted to kill me! It was 1 o’clock in the morning and you rang me: ‘Rio what’s going on, can we sort this out?’ You ended up signing for United. Initially, that must have been a beautiful thing for you because I remember on the phone you sounded so happy. Then obviously it went a bit sour,” Ferdinand recounted.

In response, Ronaldo said, “I don’t need to prove if I’m right or wrong, it is not my issue anymore. I say what I have to say. For me, it is done. But to be honest, what I wish for Manchester is what I wish for me – the best, that they can make the best team they can. I love that club. I’m not that kind of guy that forgot the past.”

In the last few days, Ronaldo has spoken a lot about Manchester United, and how he still supports the club.
