Sergi Roberto began his club career at a local club named Santes Creus in 2000 at the age of 8. He then joined Gimnastic de Tarragona in Catalonia from where he eventually moved to Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy in 2009. In 2016, he provided two assists as a right-back in a 6-2 win over Real Betis in the first match of the campaign. Soon after joining Barcelona’s youth setup, Sergi Roberto was called up for Spain’s U17 side for the 2009 FIFA World Cup. He scored a hat-trick against Burkina Faso in November as Spain eventually finished in third place.
Roberto then featured for the Spain U21 side during the 2013 U21 European Championship qualifiers. He made his senior debut on March 27 in a friendly against Cluj-Napoca.
