Hannibal Mejbri, Sevilla, Manchester United

Sevilla sign Manchester United startlet Hannibal Mejbri on loan with option to buy

Sevilla have secured the signing of Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri on a loan deal, with an option to buy in the future.

As per reports from Fabrizio Romano, Mejbri will sign an initial six-month loan deal, which Sevilla can make permanent for €20 million in June. His reports also add that Manchester United will not have a buy-back clause for the player.

Sevilla have had Hannibal Mejbri in their sights since last summer but multiple factors prevented a deal from going through. With the transfer nearly official, the player was spotted in Seville as reported by Romano. He will have his medical next week and an official announcement is expected to be made thereafter.

Hannibal Mejbri began his youth career with Paris FC in France, before moving to Boulogne-Billancourt and later AS Monaco. He then moved to Manchester United in 2019 for a reported fee in the region of €5 million.

Mejbri broke into the first team in 2021 and was handed his senior debut by former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. So far, he has made 13 appearances across competitions and has scored just once for United in a 3-1 defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Despite having representing France at various youth levels, Hannibal Mejbri chose to play for Tunisia’s senior team owing to it being his parents’ country of origin. He has made 27 appearances for the Tunisian senior team so far.

A lack of game time under Erik ten Hag at Manchester United further encouraged the player to look for options elsewhere. However, with Sevilla reeling in 17th place in La Liga with 16 points from 20 games, Hannibal Mejbri is likely to get plenty of game time under new manager Quique Sanchez Flores.
