Spain vs Georgia Player Ratings

Spain vs Georgia Player Ratings as La Roja win 4-1 to qualify for Euro 2024 quarter-final

Spain have managed to ease into the Euro 2024 quarter-final with a win over Georgia. La Roja needed to come from behind to get through, but managed to avoid an upset and sealed their spot in the next round.

Robin Le Normand opened the scoring in the game after deflecting a cross from Otar Kakabadze into his own net. Spain went behind against the run of play and Georgia were in dreamland.

The Euro debutants looked set to go into half-time with the lead intact, but Rodri had other plans. A low shot into the far post saw Mamardashvili stretch his best but just could not get his hands on it.

Fabian Ruiz made it 2-1 just six minutes after the restart and Georgia had lost all hope. They were trying their best to counter-attack, but Lamine Yamal’s superb cross was put in by the Spaniard waiting at the far post.

Nico Williams then eased past the Georgian defense to put the game to bed in the 75th minute. A stunning solo run saw him drive into the box and lash a shot past Mamardashvili to make it 3-1.

Dani Olmo came off the bench to make things better for Spain. His well-placed shot towards the goalkeeper’s right gave Mamardashvile no chance and it was 4-1 in the 83rd minute. Here’s our analysis for Spain vs Georgia player ratings:

Goalkeeper

Unai Simon

Unai Simón – 6: Did not have to make any save in the match and was a spectator for most of it. He was almost caught out once by Kvaratskhelia from the halfline, and that would have been an embarrassing moment.

Defenders

Daniel Carvajal – 7: Did not have to do anything defensively and spent most of the match helping Spain in attack instead.

Robin Le Normand – 6: Unfortunate own goal, but that was the only mistake in the game. It luckily did not prove costly for his side and they managed to get the win.

Aymeric Laporte – 8: Did not put a foot wrong in the game and was playing in the opponent’s half most of the game as he they pressed Georgia deep into their half.

Marc Cucurella – 7.5: Another solid outing for the left-back who was touted to be the weak link in the Spanish side. He has proved his doubters wrong and has once again shown why he is starting over Grimaldo.

Pedri – 7: Played just 52 minutes today and was sensational. Did not get a lot of the ball as he was tightly marked, but still finished with four key passes and a shot on target.

Fabián Ruiz – 9: He has quietly been Spain’s best player in the tournament. Another goal today, along with an assist just cemented his place in the side for the foreseeable future.

Lamine Yamal
Yamal (Gett Images)

Lamine Yamal – 9: Every time he gets on the ball, it becomes harder for people to believe that he is just 16 years old. Exquisite technique, composure, and whatnot. Never afraid to take a shot and knows when to play that extra pass too.

Álvaro Morata – 6.5: Not his best game today as he always had two defenders on his back. Managed just one shot before he was taken off in the 67th minute.

Nico Williams – 8.5: The goal was the icing on the cake for the youngster. Silky smooth on the ball and Georgian defenders will have nightmares about him.
