There was much speculation about Thiago Silva’s transfer after he expressed his desire to leave Chelsea at the end of this season. The former PSG defender has spent four successful years at the London-based outfit, winning the 2020-21 Champions League. Many believed he would join another top club in the Premier League as he continues to perform at the highest level despite being 39 years old.

His final game for the Blues will be when the North London outfit hosts Bournemouth in the final match of the club’s Premier League 2023-24 season. He has been heavily tipped to join the likes of Manchester United and Newcastle United, both of whom have struggled to find a formidable center-back throughout the season.

Silva announced his arrival in England in style by winning the prestigious Champions League trophy in his debut season, playing an instrumental role for the Blues. However, he suffered a significant setback in his career after sustaining ligament damage in a Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspur. His last Champions League appearance was against mighty Real Madrid, where the English outfit lost the tie with a 4-0 aggregate score in 2023.

Silva was named ‘Chelsea’s Player of the Year’ for his astounding contribution across all competitions. He also holds the distinction of being the club’s oldest goal scorer, finding the back of the net in a 4-4 draw against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the Premier League in November 2023. Meanwhile, he reached an agreement with Chelsea earlier this year regarding his exit as a free agent at the end of the current season. The star Brazilian player has made 109 appearances for the Blues during his four-year stint and scored 8 important goals.

If this news is to be believed, Silva will be operating at the back for Fluminense next season. The Brazilian skipper spent three and a half years at the club at the beginning of his senior career before joining AC Milan in 2009. Silva revived his footballing career at Fluminense after retiring from football in 2006 due to a severe case of tuberculosis.

He joined the Brazilian top-division club from Dynamo Moscow. Silva played a decisive part in Fluminense’s historic victory in the 2007 Copa Do Brasil, featuring in 73 matches and scoring 9 goals during his time there. His defensive abilities caught the attention of AC Milan, leading to his move to European football.
