Tottenham Hotspur vs Crystal Palace Match Preview

Tottenham Hotspur host Crystal Palace at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday for a clash in the Premier League. The Lilywhites are looking to pick themselves up from a 2-1 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers in their last top-flight match. A brace from Joao Gomes condemned Spurs to a sixth league defeat of the season resulting in another blow to their Champions League hopes.

With 47 points from 25 games, the London side are sitting on fifth position on the table, trailing the top-four by five points with a game in hand. Indeed, their form has been sloppy lately, with Ange Postecoglou’s side winning only three of their last seven games in the league. Interspersed between this run was a 1-0 home loss to Manchester City in the FA Cup, as Tottenham were dumped out from the competition in the fourth round.

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace are down in 13th place of the league rankings, having accrued only 28 points from 26 games so far. The Eagles have won only seven times this season with two of them coming in their last five games. One was a narrow 3-2 win over Sheffield United, and lately, a 3-0 victory over Burnley on Saturday. All three of their goals were scored after the break as the Clarets played with 10-men for over an hour after Josh Brownhill’s red card in the 35th minute.

With a goal-difference of -13, Palace are better off of only five sides in the division: Bournemouth (-14), Nottingham Forest (-14), Luton Town (-16), Burnley (-33) and Sheffield United (-44).

Manor Salomon is a long-term absentee for Spurs, having been sidelined since October with a meniscus injury. Ryan Sessegnon is nursing a hamstring injury and he isn’t expected to return for the clash either. Pedro Porro, Destiny Udogie and Fraser Forster all picked up knocks earlier this month, and missed their loss to Wolves on 17 February. Having found some rest over the last few days, the players will be screened ahead of the kick-off to determine their availability. Giovani Lo Celso returned from a thigh problem in their last game, making an appearance off the bench. He will be gunning for a start at the weekend.

Predicted XI: Guglielmo Vicario; Emerson Royal, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Ben Davies; Pape Mate Sarr, Yves Bissouma, Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison, Heung-min Son; Richarlison

Crystal Palace

The Eagles may not have Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze as both are currently nursing thigh problems. Will Hughes is down with a foot problem whereas Marc Guehi has sustained a knock to his knee. Rob Holding, Cheick Doucoure, and Jesurun Rak-Sakyi are in the treatment room too. Talismanic forward Jordan Ayew is looking to score in their third consecutive league match, having struck against Everton and Sheffield in their last two games.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Crystal Palace Head-To-Head

There have been 64 clashes between the sides before, with Spurs winning on 36 occasions and losing to Palace just 13 times. This fixture has produced 15 draws, but it’s been over three years since we last saw one (1-1 draw in December 2020).

Last 5 games, head-to-head

Crystal Palace 1-2 Tottenham Hotspur (Premier League, 27 October 2023)

Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 Crystal Palace (Premier League, 6 May 2023)

Crystal Palace 0-4 Tottenham Hotspur (Premier League, 4 January 2023)

Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 Crystal Palace (Premier League, December 2021)

Crystal Palace 3-0 Tottenham Hotspur (Premier League, September 2021)

As you can see, Tottenham have been the dominating side the fixture in recent times. Since the heavy 3-0 loss in the fixture in 2021, the Lilywhites have won their next four games to Palace in the league, including a 3-1 victory earlier this season at the Selhurst Park.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Crystal Palace Prediction

Tottenham Hotspur are the favorites on paper, given their form and their head-to-head record in the fixture lately. Sure, the side lost 2-1 at home to Wolves in an unexpected result, but Ange Postecoglu’s men will have enjoyed a two-week long break by the time of the kick-off, as their Chelsea clash was postponed owing to the latter’s participation in the Carabao Cup finals on Sunday. This should provide them with a massive boost and beat Palace for the fifth time in a row.

Predicted Score: Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 Crystal Palace
