Tottenham Hotspur host Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday in the Premier League. The Lilywhites are looking to extend their unbeaten run in the top flight to six games and perhaps build on their comeback victory from last time.

On Saturday, Spurs fought back an early deficit to beat Brighton at home, with Brennan Johnson scoring the winner in the 96th minute. The win, coupled with Aston Villa’s defeat to Manchester United, propelled the London side back in the top four places on the league table. However, Villa are just a point of them and any slip up could be punished.

Ange Postecoglu’s side will also have revenge on their minds for their 2-1 loss to Wolves earlier this campaign. Johnson’s third-minute strike had Spurs in front for the longest time, but the hosts struck twice in stoppage time for a smash-and-grab win. Pablo Sarabia equalised in the first added minute before Mario Lemina won it for the Wolves in the 97th minute.

Speaking of Wolves, it’s been a rough few weeks for the side, who’ve won just one of their last four league games, losing twice. However, that victory came away to Chelsea as Gary O’Neil’s side thumped their hosts 4-2 at Stamford Bridge, with Matheus Nunes scoring a hat-trick.

It showed what kind of damage the Wolves can do on their day, and ahead of their return to London this weekend, will be seeking inspiration from that match to pull off another scalp.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Wolves Team News

Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs are contending with a few injuries at the moment. Manor Salomon is out with a meniscus injury since October whereas Ryan Sessegnon is nursing a hamstring problem, and both their return dates are unknown. Giovani Lo Celso could return from his muscle injury layoff this weekend for his first appearance in over a month.

In a further selection boost for Postecoglu, key forward Heung-min Son returned from 2023 AFC Asian Cup games with South Korea. He came off the bench against Brighton but could be in line to start on Saturday.

Predicted XI: Guglielmo Vicario; Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Destiny Udogie; Pape Matar Sarr, Rodrigo Bentancur; Heung-min Son, James Maddison, Timo Werner; Richarlison

Wolves

Matheus Cunha, hat-trick hero of their Chelsea victory, went off with a hamstring injury in their home loss to Brentford at the weekend. Therefore, his participation in the Tottenham clash remains doubtful.

Hwang Hee-Chan has been working his way back from a calf injury with the player spotted in training lately. If given the green light, the Korean might as well return to the starting XI.

Predicted XI: Jose Sa; Matt Doherty, Santiago Bueno, Craig Dawson, Hugo Bueno; Nelson Semedo, Joao Gomes, Rayan Ait-Nouri; Pablo Sarabia, Neto, Tawanda Chirewa

Tottenham Hotspur vs Wolves Head-To-Head

There have been 89 clashes between the sides before, with Tottenham winning on 44 occasions over Wolves and losing 25 times. It shows that the London side have dominated the fixture, but their more recent results tell a different story.

Last 5 games head-to-head

  • Wolves 2-1 Tottenham (Premier League, November 2023)
  • Wolves 1-0 Tottenham (Premier League, March 2023)
  • Tottenham 1-0 Wolves (Premier League, August 2022)
  • Tottenham 0-2 Wolves (Premier League, February 2022)
  • Wolves 2-2 (4-5 on penalties) Tottenham (Carabao Cup, September 2021)

As you can see, Tottenham have won just one of their last five games against Wolves in normal time. In their penalty shootout win in the cup, Spurs had initially blown away a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 which sent the match into extra-time.

With the London side also losing their recent two clashes in the fixture, Wolves have managed to ruffle their feathers lately. Having won their first league clash of the season, the side will be eager to complete a league double over them for the first time since the 2009-10 season.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Wolves Prediction

Tottenham have slowly returned to form following a massive slump in November and December. Unbeaten in their last five top-flight matches, Spurs will be eager to build on this momentum and solidify their position in the top four with a win here.

However, it’s far easier said than done against a Wolves side that has had their numbers in recent fixtures. Despite their erratic form, expect the Wolves to give them a tough fight, but could eventually go down following a pulsating encounter.

Predicted score: Tottenham Hotspur 3-2 Wolves
