UEFA Champions League Top Scorers so far this season

The UEFA Champions League brings with it excitement, thrilling matches, and most of all, great and memorable goals. Over the years, renowned players have taken centre stage in the world’s biggest club competition and scored some delightful goals.

This year’s edition has been no less, with teams performing at a high level right from the group stages. Real Madrid and defending champions Manchester City ended the group phase with a perfect six wins from six games. Bayern Munich were not far behind with five wins and a draw.

With the competition set to enter its decisive phase in the knockout rounds, each goal will carry more weightage than before. Top marksman like Antoine Griezmann and Erling Haaland have already hit the ground running with their goals so far. However, the knockouts are where the men separate themselves from the boys.

Without further ado, let’s take a look at the Champions League Top Scorers so far.

Antoine Griezmann | Atletico Madrid | 5 Goals

Griezmann has been in top form for Atletico Madrid and sits the top of the list of Champions League top goal scorers. He has scored five goals in six appearances in the competition so far, all of which were in the group stage.

The Frenchman scored one goal in Atleti’s 3-2 win over Feyenoord at home but did not net in the away leg. He scored a brace at home in a 6-0 drubbing of Celtic and also scored one goal in a 2-2 draw away against the same team. Griezmann finished the group stage by scoring one goal in a narrow 2-0 win over Lazio in Atleti’s last game.

They are set to face Inter Milan in the round of 16.

Alvaro Morata | Atletico Madrid | 5 Goals

Alvaro Morata and Griezmann have forged one of the most lethal strike partnerships in the Champions League this season. The Spaniard has five goals and one assist in six appearances in the competition so far.

Morata bagged a brace in the 3-2 home win over Feyenoord. He scored one goal in the 2-2 draw away at Celtic and bagged another brace in a 6-0 home win against the same opponents. He will look to add to his tally in the knockouts.

Erling Haaland | Manchester City | 5 Goals

Last season’s Golden Boot winner with 12 goals, Haaland is nearly halfway there already this time. He has scored five goals and provided one assist in six games so far in the competition.

He began his campaign with an assist for Julian Alvarez to score the equalizer in City’s 3-1 win against Crvena Zvezda. The Norwegian then bagged a brace in a 3-1 win away at BSC Young Boys, and added another two goals in a 3-0 win in the home leg. Haaland also scored one goal in the 3-2 home win against RB Leipzig.

He played the entire game in the first leg of the round of 16 against FC Copenhagen in a 3-1 win but went scoreless.

Rasmus Hojlund | Manchester United | 5 Goals

Hojlund is the only player in the top five whose team is no longer in the competition. However, the Dane had a solid debut Champions League campaign for United. He scored five goals in six group-stage games. However, all his goals came in defeats.

Hojlund scored one goal in the Red Devils’ 4-3 defeat at Bayern Munich. He then bagged a brace in a 3-2 home defeat against Galatasaray. The Dane added another brace but was on the losing side again in a 4-3 loss away to Copenhagen.

Jude Bellingham | Real Madrid | 4 Goals

In the list of Top scorers in Champions League, Jude Bellingham has been on fire so far this season. He has scored four goals and also provided three assists in five games in the Champions League.

The Englishman scored the only goal in Real Madrid’s 1-0 home win against Union Berlin and provided an assist for Dani Ceballos’ late winner in the return leg (3-2). He bagged a goal and an assist in a 3-2 win away at Napoli and repeated the feat in a 4-2 win against them at home.

Bellingham also scored one goal in Los Blancos’ 2-1 win away at Braga but was rested for the return leg.
