Preview
USA vs Uruguay will be the final Group C game in Copa America 2024 and will take place at the Arrowhead Stadium on July 2 as they battle for the top spot.
The host nation will have work to do if they are to defeat their next opponents. The USA started off well with a 2-0 win over Bolivia, but fell to a shock 2-1 defeat against Panama in their last game to bring a stutter into their progress. They will need to avoid defeat at all costs or else a draw will take Panama through at their expense.
Uruguay, on the other hand, are very well-placed to qualify for the knockouts as group winners. They defeated Panama 3-1 in the opening match, before smashing five past Bolivia without reply in a dominant win. With players in top form and momentum on their side, they look hard to score against, let alone defeat.
That said, let’s take a look at the team news from both camps ahead of this Copa America 2024 clash!
USA vs Uruguay Team News
USA national football team news
Manager Gregg Berhalter has deployed his strongest XI in both of USA’s games so far in the competition. However, he will be forced into making at least one change for the next one in the wake of Timothy Weah’s reckless red card against Panama, as well as custodian Matt Turner’s injury.
Ethan Horvath could start in goal if Turner isn’t declared fit in time, with Tim Ream and Chris Richards in central defence ahead of him. Tyler Adams and Weston McKennie will anchor the midfield, while Josh Sargent could get a start out wide on the right next game. Skipper Christian Pulisic will play on the left, with Folarin Balogun up top.
Uruguay national football team news
Manager Marcelo Bielsa made one change in the two games that Uruguay have played so far as he used two different attacking midfielders in either game. Considering his team have one foot in the next round, Bielsa could make a few alterations for the final group game.
Franco Israel could get the nod in goal, with Ronald Araujo and Mathias Olivera in central defence ahead of him. Skipper Federico Valverde will retain his place, while Rodrigo Bentancur could come into the team. Cristian Olivera and Maximiliano Araujo will man the wings, while Luis Suarez could get a start as well.
