Wales vs Montenegro Preview
Tournament: UEFA Nations League Group Stage
Date: Monday, October 14, 2024
Time: 6:45 pm GMT
Venue: Cardiff City Stadium, Wales
Wales will host Montenegro in their fourth UEFA Nations League 2024-25 group-stage match on Monday, October 14. They come into the game on the back of mixed form but would be the favorites to win this one.
Wales are currently second in League B Group 4 of the UEFA Nations League with five points after one win and two draws. They sit two points behind leaders Turkiye and one above Iceland. They played out a goalless draw against Turkiye and beat Montenegro last month before drawing 2-2 against Iceland on Friday.
Montenegro, meanwhile, are at the bottom of the group with zero points. They lost 2-0 against Iceland, 2-1 against Wales and 1-0 against Turkiye. They need to win on Monday to have any chance to proceed to the next stage of the competition. A draw won’t suffice.
Wales National Football Team News
Wales will be without star man Brennan Johnson. The attacker is suspended after receiving his second yellow card of the tournament against Iceland on Friday.
Montenegro National Football Team News
Montenegro, meanwhile, will have their entire squad available for the clash.

Key Players to watch in Wales vs Montenegro
Stevan Jovetic
Stevan Jovetic will be the key man for Montenegro once again when they take on Wales. The striker currently plays for Cyprus club Omonio Nikosia at the club level, having joined them just last month.
In his younger days, Jovetic played for some of the biggest clubs in the world like Manchester City and Inter Milan, winning multiple trophies. Since leaving Inter permanently in 2017, he’s played for many clubs before joining Omonio last month.
At the international level, Jovetic has scored 36 goals and provided 18 assists in 81 games for Montenegro. However, his last goal for the side came back in June 2024.
Harry Wilson
Harry Wilson has lost his place as the first-choice starter in the Fulham setup under Marco Silva. He’s been at the club since 2021 but has made just five appearances across competitions this season. He started their two games in the EFL Cup.
Hence, the Welsh midfielder will be keen to use the international break to regain his form and showcase his ability. He has done just that in the Nations League so far. He has scored two goals and provided one assist in three games so far.
Wilson was excellent in Wales’ 2-2 draw against Iceland, scoring a goal and practically making another. He also contributed one goal and one assist in their 2-1 win over Montenegro last time out and will look to replicate those exploits on Monday.
Wales vs Montenegro Prediction
Wales had an excellent first half against Iceland which saw them go 2-0 up in quick time. However, they ended up conceding two goals to share the spoils, which would’ve been quite disappointing for them. They will be keen to get all three points on Monday.
Wales are ranked 29th in the FIFA World Rankings. They have won just one of their last six games across competitions but also lost just one, drawing the other four. They beat Montenegro 2-1 away last month and will back themselves at home this time to take all three points.
Montenegro, meanwhile, have lost their last five games in a row. Their last competitive win was back in November 2023 when they beat Lithuania 2-0 in the UEFA Euro Qualifiers. They will be keen to get a positive result at their home ground but it would be tough against a decent Wales side, even though they will be without Brennan Johnson.
Predicted Score: Wales 2-1 Montenegro
