West Ham United are reportedly close to appointing Julen Lopetegui as David Moyes’ replacement this summer. The former Real Madrid boss is a free agent since leaving Wolverhampton last summer.
As per a report in The Guardian, Lopetegui has won the race after the Hammers held talks with Ruben Amorim. The Portuguese manager was not interested in talking over and that saw them switch attention to the Spaniard.
The Hammers faced competition from AC Milan, who made a move for Lopetegui earlier this week. The Serie A side are out of the running and that has seen West Ham take charge in the race.
However, reports in Germany have stated that Bayern Munich are also keeping tabs on Julen Lopetegui.
David Moyes was quizzed about the names linked with the Hammers and he said:
“I have to be honest, I haven’t looked. I’m only getting told by people like you, or maybe people have phoned me up. But I haven’t gone out looking. As far as I’m concerned, we had an agreement we would speak at the end of the season.”
David Moyes not thinking about leaving West Ham United right now
David Moyes has stated that he is focused on finishing the season with West Ham United right now. He has no plans to start worry about the off pitch stuff and said:
“Absolutely, yes. I said to everybody and people who work for your company as well that we’ll make a decision at the end of the season. We don’t want any distractions We keep our eye on the ball. Tim has got his job to do, I’ve got my job to do. We’ve got three games to play. We want to keep focused on those games we’ve been talking about.”
When asked if there has been any communication from the management, he added:
“I’ve not had any communication at all. That is because we’ve already decided amongst ourselves that we would talk at the end of the season. There is a lot of speculation around, I understand that. But we need to get things right.”
Moyes was quizzed if the West Ham fans stil back him, he added:
“I’m sounding like a big-headed git here, but everyone says: ‘Unbelievable, thanks for giving me the best years, it’s been brilliant’. One fan gave me a bit of criticism after the Crystal Palace game. No problem, I deserved all the criticism in the world.”
“There have been three or four games I hated, but there’s been a bundle of good moments like the win against Tottenham, beating Chelsea, going to Brighton and winning and beating Manchester United at home. But all that is quite easily forgotten.”
