West Ham vs Arsenal Preview and Prediction

West Ham vs Arsenal Match Preview

Seventh placed West Ham United will host third placed Arsenal at the London Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday, February 11.

The hosts enter this game on the back of a rather declining run of form. They have won just thrice in their last 10 games across competitions, with four draws and three defeats making up the other results. The Hammers are coincidentally winless since their last meeting against the Gunners, a 2-0 win in the last week of December. Since then, they have played out four draws and lost twice, with their last outing being a 3-0 humbling by Manchester United. West Ham were looking to make amends in their next one.

The Gunners, on the other hand, are only slightly better off in terms of form. They have won four of their last 10 games across competitions, with four defeats and two draws making up the remainder of the results. However, Arsenal seem to have regained control and momentum in their campaign and have won their last three on the bounce, scoring 10 goals. Their last outing was a statement 3-1 win against Liverpool as the Gunners will look to continue putting points on the board in their next game.

On that note, let’s take a look at the team news from both camps.

Team News & Predicted Lineups

West Ham

Manager David Moyes will be without two of his main players for the game against Arsenal. Michail Antonio (knee) and Lucas Paqueta (calf) remain sidelined long-term, with no set return date available for either. They could, however, return before the end of the season.

This means Ben Johnson and Tomas Soucek will retain their place in the starting XI, with Moyes likely to field the same team he did against Man United.

Predicted XI: Alphonse Areola (GK), Vladimir Coufal, Kurt Zouma (C), Nayef Aguerd, Emerson Palmieri, Edson Alvarez, Tomas Soucek, Ben Johnson, James Ward-Prowse, Mohammed Kudus, Jarrod Bowen.

Arsenal

Manager Mikel Arteta will be without long-term absentees Thomas Partey (hamstring) and Fabio Vieira (groin) as the pair have been out of action since November. They are likely to make their returns before the end of the season.

Meanwhile, both Oleksandr Zinchenko and Bukayo Saka picked up knocks in the Gunners’ win over Liverpool. The former was subbed off at half-time, while the latter carried on but was eventually replaced in the 79th minute. They will face late fitness tests ahead of their next game.

Apart from that, Arteta is known to stick with the same XI. Gabriel Jesus missed the last one and should be straight back into the fold for this one.

Predicted XI: David Raya (GK), Benjamin White, William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard (C), Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus.

Last 5 Games Head-to-Head

  • Arsenal 0-2 West Ham (12/23)
  • West Ham 3-1 Arsenal (11/23)
  • West Ham 2-2 Arsenal (04/23)
  • Arsenal 3-1 West Ham (12/22)
  • West Ham 1-2 Arsenal (05/22)

As you can see, the two teams are usually involved in high-scoring contests where both sides get on the scoresheet. The head-to-head is perfectly balances with both Arsenal and West Ham winning twice apiece, sharing one score draw between them.

Both teams have scored in all but one of their last five meetings, with all those games seeing three or more goals being scored as well. Both teams have won at home and away, showing no real patterns of home advantage.

The upcoming game is vital for both teams for their objectives. However, the Gunners beat the Premier League leaders last time around and will have the upper hand in this one as well. Gabriel Martinelli has been in top form and will be one to watch out for.

Prediction: West Ham 1-3 Arsenal.
