West Brom defender Kyle Bartley was seen fuming during the 2-2 draw versus Watford in The Championship at The Hawthorns on Monday.
Edo Kayembe gave the visitors the lead in the 51st minute and Mileta Rajkovic doubled Watford’s lead with his goal in the 66th minute. West Brom were able to save their blushes with a late comeback through goals from Brandom Thomas-Asante and Darnell Furlong.
Fans witnessed a controversial moment during The Hornets’ opener when Kyle Bartley was outraged with the assistant referee for awarding a corner which led to the opener to his opponents instead of calling an offside in the initial build-up.
The Baggies’ players stood frustrated on the pitch with the controversial call which ultimately affected their match and the result. However, head coach Carlos Corberan will be even more disappointed with this team than the referee as his players did not make an effort to close down Edo Kayembe when the ball bounced at his feet following Semi Ajayi’s clearance.
Controversial calls from referees are the topic of discussion every matchday from around Europe but it is the job of a player to not lose focus to avoid such decisive moments.
With this draw, West Brom took a dent in their hopes of gaining a promotion playoff spot comfortably but they benefited from Norwich City’s defeat to league leaders Leicester City at the King Power Stadium earlier this afternoon.
