Harry Kane

Will Harry Kane break Robert Lewandowski’s goal record in the Bundesliga? Here’s all you need to know

Harry Kane is 11 goals away from breaking Robert Lewandowski’s scoring record in a single league season. The England international scored a hat-trick in Bayern’s 8-1 goals galore over Mainz at Allianz Arena. It was Kane’s fourth hat-trick with Bayern so far, making him the first player of the club to do so in his first season.

Kane scored with both feet and head as well to score his 30th goal. He joined Hamburg’s Uwe Seeler as the only previous player with such a milestone in the first season. This result was a huge boost for Bayern amid the critics regarding their performance so far.

Bayern now have cut the gap from 10 to seven points at the table to Bayer Leverkusen. But Xabi Alonso’s side still have one game to play. Speaking after the game, the former Tottenham Hotspur striker said that the only possible way to avoid Die Werkself winning the title is by winning every week.

“I think realistically of course they are favorites to win the league,” he told the reporters. “I think everyone knows that. But all we can do is what we have done today, just win our games. There are maybe ten games left, or around ten games left. We have to try and win all of them and see that they do.

They have had a fantastic season, credit to them for that. This is always the business and this is always the hardest part. So all we can do is try and win our games and hopefully they drop points.”

Bayern’s title hope is still alive

Before the match, Thomas Tuchel said that his squad will not stop believing in extending their consecutive league-winning campaigns to 12 in a row. “We haven’t handed over the title,” Tuchel told reporters on Friday via Reuters. “There’s an area between giving up and a statement of intent — and that’s called reality.

“The gap is very big. That’s realistic. For us, it’s about being more stable and finding new stability. That always starts with the next step. We need to win, win, win.”

Tuchel added that he understood the critics regarding his club’s poor run recently. But their latest European campaign against Lazio boosted their morale and started to believe that they could back on the winning track again.

“There’s always big hope. Obviously experiences and results like that (Lazio) help us, should give us courage and confidence,” he added. “When you pull on the Bayern jersey, it’s about performing.

That’s the same tomorrow. We want the maximum tomorrow. We hope the win gives us confidence and we can follow it with more wins.”

Leon Goretzka and Jamal Musiala are shining bright as well

Kane was not the only player who shone brightly at Allianz. Leon Goretzka also scored a hat-trick, while Jamal Musiala scored a goal plus two assists. Musiala has now been involved in Bayern’s nine league goals in the last 11 matches.
