Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa recently took to social media to express displeasure regarding VAR decisions that went against his team in their last few games in the Premier League.
Gary O’Neil’s team have been on the receiving end of VAR calls that overturned the match situation in the opponents’ favour against Sheffield United and West Ham United.
Jose Sa questions VAR calls made against Wolves
Sa was in conversation with Sky Sports regarding the multiple decisions awarded against Wolves by VAR and expressed his displeasure with the same. When asked how it made him feel, Sa replied,
“Very frustrating. Because I think it was not fair what happened. I talked with players at the end of the game, I won’t say who, but they too said, ‘Unbelievable decision, of course it’s a goal!’
The reporter then mentioned that incident against West Ham United was not isolated, and that Wolves have been on the receiving end of poor VAR calls in other games as well. Sa responded snappily, saying,
“Yeah, yeah. Ten points already taken from us this season. It’s unbelievable, and with VAR. I can’t understand if they don’t know how to work, then change and put the others!”
The Portuguese custodian’s comments, albeit strong, do make sense and carry multiple valid points. Premier League teams other than Wolves have also been on the receiving end of poor decisions by VAR this season. A well-thought solution is a must for streamlined running.
Wolves’ form in recent times
While O’Neil’s style of play had many in awe, things are starting to look a bit dire at the Molineux Stadium as they have won just twice in their last eight games. Wolves have lost four and drawn two of the other six games. In that span, they scored nine goals and conceded a worrying 14 goals.
Their poor run of form has seen them slip into the bottom half of the Premier League table. Wolves are currently 11th with 43 points from 32 games. They will face a stern test in their next league outing as they will host title contenders Arsenal at the Molineux.
