“I feel strong enough”: Xavi Hernandez breaks silence after deciding to extend Bacrelona stay

Barcelona fans got what they wanted as Xavi Hernandez has now decided to stay put as the club’s head coach. After the deal was announced, the four-time Champions League winner admitted that he would continue to work hard for Blaugrana.

Initially, Xavi was announced to leave the club at the end of the season. However this morning, Barcelona president Joan Laporta announced the opposite. He will now spend another season with Barca, rebuilding his squad to restore past glories.

“I feel strong enough to continue building this project,” he said. “We may not have achieved the trophy-winning targets that we set for this season, but there is hope for next season and I think we are very close to achieving big things.

“There are several reasons, but the main one is to ensure the stability of the club and to continue building a winning team.”

Barcelona have lost all competitions they took part in this season. In Copa del Rey, they were knocked out in the quarter final after losing to the eventual champions Athletic Bilbao.

It was also the case in the Champions League as Barca tasted the ‘remontada’ from Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter final. It is about time for them to lose the LaLiga title as they are 11 points behind the league toppers with 6 games to go.

“The players believe in me and they have expressed to me their complicity and support, they persuaded me to change my mind,” Xavi continued. “The fans also encouraged me and that also led me to reappraise my thoughts. I thank them for all their support and love.”

In the near future, Barcelona are scheduled to host Valencia at Camp Nou. A victory would at least cut their gap to Real Madrid for a while after a disappointing loss at Santiago Bernabeu a few days ago.
