Osasuna vs Getafe Preview

Tenth-placed Getafe will get ready to travel to 12th-placed Osasuna in La Liga in what will prove to be a crucial encounter in both teams’ seasons.

Jagoba Arrasate’s Osasuna have been in decent form of late, securing two wins, two draws and one defeat in their last five league games. They also played against Barcelona in the Supercopa de Espana semi-finals but lost 2-0. Having finished an impressive seventh last season, the club find themselves a significant distance away from achieving that target this time around. They still need 31 points from their remaining 19 games to even match the tally.

Getafe manager Jose Bordalas, on the other hand, has not enjoyed a much better season either. However, they are better off than their 15th placed finish last season, having already earned 26 of the 42 points they earned last time around. They have won two, lost two and drawn one game in their last five and will be eager for a win after a disappointing defeat against Rayo Vallecano in their last outing.

Osasuna vs Getafe Team News & Probable Lineups

Osasuna

Osasuna will enter this contest with a nearly clean slate as they have just one player missing through injury. Forward Chimy Avila, who picked up a calf injury last week, is likely to miss out against Getafe as he will not recover in time to make the squad for the game.

Meanwhile, Ante Budimir is at the risk of a suspension, having already picked up four yellow cards in La Liga this season.

Probable XI: Sergio Herrera (GK), Jesus Areso, David Garcia (C), Juan Cruz, Ruben Pena, Iker Munoz, Moi Gomez, Aimar Oroz, Jon Moncayola, Jose Manuel Arnaiz, Ante Budimir.

Getafe

Mason Greenwood, Getafe

Long-term absentee Mauro Arambarri is still recovering from a cruciate ligament injury and is expected to miss the remainder of this season. Twenty-year-old midfielder Ilaix Moriba will miss out as he has been called up by Guinea for the African Cup of Nations.

Elsewhere, Mason Greenwood, Juanmi Latasa and Damian Suarez will all be out of contention as they have been suspended following their red cards in the defeat against Rayo.

Five Getafe players are also at the risk of suspension, having already been booked four times in La Liga this season.

Probable XI: David Soria (GK), Juan Iglesias, Domingos Duarte, Gaston Alvarez, Diego Rico, Jaime Mata (C), Luis Milla, Nemanja Maksimovic, Jose Angel Carmona, Jordi Martin, Borja Mayoral.

Osasuna vs Getafe Head-to-Head & Prediction

Last 5 La Liga games H2H

  • Getafe 3-2 Osasuna (09/23)
  • Getafe 2-1 Osasuna (05/23)
  • Osasuna 0-2 Getafe (09/22)
  • Osasuna 1-1 Getafe (05/22)
  • Getafe 1-0 Osasuna (12/21)

Getafe have clearly dominated meetings between the two teams in recent times, winning four and drawing one of their last five meetings in La Liga. In fact, the last time Osasuna won this fixture in La Liga was way back in February 2014 when they won 2-0 on home soil.

A worrying sign for Osasuna prior to this game is that they have failed to score in six of the last nine fixtures between these two sides. In the games they did score, they picked up just one point from a possible nine, so this isn’t the best of games for them usually.

Things point towards a Getafe win but their suspensions might hinder them, so a draw is likelier.

Prediction: Osasuna 1-1 Getafe.

Top Players to Watch

Osasuna

Croatian forward Ante Budimir will be one to keep an eye on as he has already bagged nine goals in La Liga this season, and has also chipped in with two assists. Standing at nearly 6-foot-4, his towering presence gives him valuable presence in the air, which his team could try and take advantage of to try and win this game.

Two of Budimir’s nine goals have been headers, while the other seven have been scored with his left foot. He has already exceeded his tally from last season (8) and will look to hit double digits soon.

Getafe

Borja Mayoral, Getafe

Borja Mayoral will be one to watch as he has bagged 12 goals in La Liga this season, along with one assist. Both the second and third top scorers will miss out due to suspension so Mayoral will have an extra weight on his shoulders to carry and see Getafe past the finish line.

Mayoral’s goals have come with a good balance, with four headed goals, one left footed goal and seven with his right foot. The Spaniard will need to put in another big performance against Osasuna to earn the win for his team.
