Real Madrid cruised past Girona in a 4-0 victory as Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham and Rodrygo were among the goals to send them five points clear at the top of the La Liga table.

Real Madrid crushed Girona 4-0 in La Liga on Saturday to pull five points clear at the top of the table. Jude Bellingham netted a brace, whereas Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo also struck apiece.

Girona began the match by dominating possession but Madrid didn’t take long to snuff the momentum out of their sturdy visitors as Vinicius scored just six minutes into the kick-off. The Brazilian dribbled away from his markers on the left before unleashing a 20-yard pile driver at the far post to make it 1-0 for the leaders.

As the game progressed, the Blanquivermells enjoyed another spell of possession but Los Blancos were happy to just sit back and hit them on the break. In the 36th minute, Bellingham doubled their advantage. Vinicius slipped a long ball for Bellingham to chase as the Englishman raced forward before making a tight-angle finish.

Real Madrid led 2-0 at the break and given their dominance, were certain to clinch all three points. And they were to do so in more resounding fashion after the break. Vinicius, rampant on the left flank all night, dribbled his way into the area ruffling Girona’s defense, but saw his shot parried away by Paulo Gazzaniga. It came straight to Bellingham, though, and the Englishman made an easy finish for 3-0.

Another seven minutes later, more misery followed Girona as Rodrygo added a fourth goal following a brilliant run from at least 30 yards out and burying it into the bottom corner for a terrific individual goal. Having beaten them 3-0 in their earlier clash, Real Madrid completed a league double over Girona for the first time. But more importantly, went five points clear in first position on the La Liga table.

Andriy Lunin (GK) – 7/10: With Girona failing to muster a single shot on target, Lunin didn’t have to make a single save; a clean sheet to boot

Lucas Vazquez (RB) – 6.5/10: The Spaniard worked hard to contribute to Real Madrid’s attacks; he made one key pass and two crosses

Aurelien Tchouameni (CB) – 7/10: He didn’t have to do much but still looked strong whenever Girona threatened; registered six clearances
