Sevilla vs Celta Vigo Preview, Prediction and Betting Tips | LaLiga

Date: 17 March, Sunday

Kick-off Time: 1:00 PM (GMT)

Stadium: Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium

Sevilla vs Celta Vigo Preview:

Sevilla vs Celta Vigo will kick-off at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan stadium on Matchday 29 in LaLiga as both sides look to desperately earn three points. Sevilla’s  lethargic 2-2 draw with bottom ranked Almeria last weekend perfectly defined their season till now. The seven time Europa League winners are going through a period of turmoil and this season their woes have continued. After finishing last season in 12th place in LaLiga, Sevilla find themselves in 14th position this campaign only six above the drop zone. While it is unlikely that Sevilla will be relegated, the sides below them are slowly picking up form and could surprise them.

Perhaps one of only the teams enduring a worse season than Sevilla are Celta Vigo. The Galicians have struggled all season and things reached a breaking point last weekend as Real Madrid trashed them 4-0. The loss was a wake up call for the Celta board and they sacked Rafa Benitez as the manager. However, all this chaos with only ten matches to go in the season and a crucial tie against Sevilla looming could further weaken the side. Captain Iago Aspas will have to do the important job of uniting the side and focus on fighting their way out of the hole they currently are in.

On paper, the Andalusians have a strong side, but on the pitch their issues have been manifold. Defensive issues, a stagnant midfield and an inconsistent attack have been some of the issues. It hasn’t helped that injuries have marred their season in crucial phases of the season.

On Sunday, Sevilla will be without the services of striker Mariano Diaz yet again. The striker arrived from Real Madrid in the summer and has constantly picked up injuries. He sustained his latest muscle injury back in January and now he’s unlikely to return for the club till April. He has been accompanied by Joan Jordan on the sidelines who has also picked up injuries regularly this season. The midfielder has been extremely important to Sevilla since his arrival in 2019 and the club has suffered without him this season. Youngster Juanlu Sanchez will also remain on the sidelines as he recovers from his hamstring injury.

In a further blow for Sevilla, club legend and midfielder Ivan Rakitic left the club in the winter transfer window.

Celta Vigo:

The Galicians haven’t been in great form this season and their long injury list also has something to do with. Midfielder Renato Tapia has been crucial to the Vigo side and his muscle injury will see him miss the Sevilla vs Celta Vigo tie. Midfielder Carlos Dotor will also remain on the sidelines as he recovers from his hamstring injury. Celta Vigo will also rue the absence of left-back Mihailo Ristic whose hamstring injury has almost definitely ended his season.

Celta Vigo’s defense was also left orphaned early in the season as Joseph Aidoo sustained an ACL injury in October. The center-back will directly return next season. Without his presence in defense, the Galicians have suffered because of the lack of a leader in the backline.

Sevilla vs Celta Vigo Prediction:

Neither Sevilla nor Celta have enjoyed a good campaign in LaLiga. While on paper, Sevilla looks the stronger side, it is likely that Vigo might be able to hold them to a surprise draw at home. Sevilla will look to dominate possession, while Vigo will look to exploit the wings on the counterattack. Bar any surprises, Sevilla vs Celta Vigo will be a low-scoring game in which Sevilla might win the game by a slender margin.

Predicted Score: Sevilla 2-1 Celta Vigo
