Bayern Munich have announced that manager Thomas Tuchel will leave the club at the end of the season.
Tuchel was appointed as Bayern Munich’s coach in March last year following Julian Nagelsmann’s sacking. He saw the Bavarians get eliminated from the UEFA Champions League and the DFB Pokal last season. They did, however, win the Bundesliga title on the final day.
Bayern Munich have failed to live up to their mighty standards this season, though. They lost in the DFL Supercup and have been eliminated from the DFB Pokal as well. They are second in the Bundesliga table, eight points behind Bayer Leverkusen.
Bayern have lost their last three games across competitions, starting with a 3-0 loss at Bayer Leverkusen. They then lost 1-0 against Lazio in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 first leg before losing 3-2 against VfL Bochum in the Bundesliga.

Following this, there was immense speculation about Thomas Tuchel’s future at the club. Bayern Munich have now confirmed that the German manager will leave at the end of the season.
Club CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen put out a statement, stating:
“In a good, open discussion, we came to the decision to end our working relationship by mutual agreement in the summer. Our goal is to pursue a new footballing direction with a new head coach for the 2024/25 season.
“Until then, every individual at the club is expressly called upon to achieve the maximum possible in the Champions League and Bundesliga. I also explicitly hold the team accountable in this regard. In the Champions League in particular, after losing 1-0 in the first leg at Lazio, we are convinced we will reach the quarter-finals at a packed Allianz Arena with our fans behind us.”
Bayern Munich’s updates also included a statement from Thomas Tuchel, who insisted that he is focused on the remainder of the season. He said:
“We have agreed that we will end our working relationship at the end of this season. Until then, my coaching staff and I will of course continue to do everything we can to ensure maximum success for FC Bayern.”
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso is a strong candidate for Thomas Tuchel’s replacement at the club. Alonso has also been linked with a move to Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp set to leave in the summer.
Meanwhile, Tuchel has been linked with a move to Barcelona, with Xavi Hernandez set to leave at the end of the season as well.
