Another day, another disastrous Champions League performance by RB Leipzig as they were beaten by Aston Villa at home. This result extends their pointless streak in six games. Matty Cash shocked the host crowd with his close-range strike in the beginning of the first half which brought the visitors took an early lead in three minutes.
Luis Openda made the stadium erupt after scoring a leveler in the 27th minute and the score stood until the break. After the break, Villa restored their lead through Jhon Duran who came on by replacing Watkins who didn’t perform well. Leipzig scored another equaliser in the match after Christoph Baumgartner put the ball on the top bin using his side foot.
But it was Ross Barkley who killed Leipzig’s hope of earning their first point of the tournament this season. Two minutes after coming in, the former Chelsea and Everton midfielder scored to put Villa back on the lead and the score line stood until the final whistle. Following this win, Villa moved up to third with 13 points in hands, while Leipzig stranded on 34th without collecting a single point.
