Arsenal and Manchester City players dominate the PFA Premier League Team of the Year

The much-awaited release of the PFA Premier League Team of the Year has finally arrived. The 2023/24 season was another one in the never-ending list of thrilling English domestic campaigns. Manchester City lifted the league title for the fourth time in a row by finishing two points above Arsenal. Unsurprisingly, the two teams took most of the spots in the PFA Team of the Season announced recently.

Despite Manchester City being the defending champions, it was Arsenal who was the best-represented in the eleven. Five Gunners made the cut while four from City were also included. For the first time in almost two decades, Arsenal had five players managing to be named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year. Virgil van Dijk and Ollie Watkins were the only two athletes in the lineup to be not associated with the top two of last season.

On an individual note, Phil Foden was awarded the highly prestigious and coveted PFA Playerโ€™s Player of the Year. The Englishman enjoyed a fine campaign with his boyhood club and can consider the accolade a well-deserved reward. Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, meanwhile, was handed the Young Player of the Year award as a recognition for his breakthrough 2023/24 season at Stamford Bridge.

Fans debate PFA Premier League Team of the Year selections

Expectedly, the PFA announcement unleashed mixed reactions from supporters of different clubs. While Arsenal fans were particularly pleased with the selections and choices, Cityzens were not too amused. Several of the Manchester City faithful could not comprehend the fact that Arsenal had more nominations in the eleven despite finishing below the Mancunian club. The frustration was widespread across social media.

One of the many surprising exclusions was Cole Palmer. The Englishman was one of the few bright spots for Chelsea last season. He also finished second in the Golden Boot race with a staggering 22 goals to his name.

The fans of the London club were not pleased at all by not seeing their favourite players in the PFA Team of the Season. Nonetheless, the journey to the 2024/25 awards has already begun and players will be motivated to back up their achievements with another year of success.
