Barcelona struggle to register €55m signing Dani Olmo due to financial woes

Dani Olmo debut in doubt ahead of 2024-25 season

Barcelona’s financial struggles continue to haunt them as they face difficulty registering their €55 million signing of Dani Olmo with La Liga.

They might have already secured the talented midfielder from RB Leipzig, but the Catalan giants are now in a race against time to ensure he can play in their La Liga opener against Valencia on Saturday.

Olmo, who has already started training with Barcelona, is eager to make his mark in the upcoming Joan Gamper Trophy final against AS Monaco.

But, his participation in La Liga remains uncertain due to the club’s ongoing financial issues. Barcelona’s inability to raise the remaining €60 million needed to cover the non-payments for the sale of Barca Vision has left them in a precarious situation.

More players left in limbo

Dani Olmo is not the only player caught in this registration limbo. Barcelona have yet to register other key signings, including Vitor Roque, Inigo Martinez, Clement Lenglet, and Eric Garcia, with La Liga.

The club recently secured a €40 million deal with catering and logistics firm Aramark, but this is still not enough to meet the financial requirements for player registration.

Sporting Director Deco and President Joan Laporta are under immense pressure to find a solution before the new season kicks off this weekend.

The club’s ability to sell more players is also restricted until they can clear their financial obligations. This has created a tense atmosphere at the Camp Nou as fans eagerly await the debut of their new stars.

Barcelona’s recent transfer activities have shown ambition, but their ongoing financial woes are a stark reminder of the challenges they face.

With the clock ticking down to the start of the new season, the Blaugrana must act swiftly to avoid starting their campaign without some of their most promising new additions.
