Dani Olmo

Manchester City could tempt Dani Olmo to sign from RB Leipzig using two ‘big factors’ that could convince the player

Manchester City will do everything in their power to sign Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig after his strong performances for the German side last season.

The Spaniard’s run of form has continued into UEFA Euro 2024 with Spain as he has scored three goals and provided two assists as they gear up to face England in the final on Sunday, July 14.

These exploits have raised Olmo’s stock significantly, with clubs waiting to pounce.

Dani Olmo: How will Pep Guardiola get his man?

Manchester City have a good relationship with RB Leipzig, having paid the Bundesliga side £77 million to secure defender Josko Gvardiol’s signature last season.

City have also faced Leipzig several times in the UEFA Champions League over the last few seasons, and the German side’s Sporting Director Max Eberl has openly aimed to strengthening ties between the two clubs.

The most obvious way for Pep Guardiola and Manchester City to convince the player would be to seek help from Spanish duo Rodri and Aymeric Laporte. They have shared a dressing room with Olmo at the ongoing Euros, with the former creating a formidable midfield alongside Olmo and Fabian Ruiz. The temptation of playing for one of the biggest clubs could be too much to turn down.

The second way would be for City’s representatives to exercise the positive relationship they have with RB Leipzig’s hierarchy. As mentioned above, the two clubs have crossed paths multiple times recently and Leipzig would be remiss if they were to play hard-ball with Manchester City, who can easily pay up.

Dani Olmo is contracted until 2027 and reportedly has a £51 million release clause inserted in his deal. City will need to move quick in order to discourage any other interested clubs.

How will Olmo fit in at Manchester City?

Olmo is an experienced attacking midfielder who stands at almost six feet tall, and is gifted with a unique body type that makes it difficult to dispossess him. A player truly for the big stage, his performances at Euro 2024 perfectly back the claim.

Dani Olmo provided just one assist across three group stage matches but has burst into life in the knockout rounds. He has scored in the round of 16, the quarters as well as the semis and provided another assist as well to propel Spain to the final.

The 26-year-old is comfortable playing on either wing but the middle of the pitch is where his best attributes come to the surface. Given his style of play, he could be the ideal addition to Manchester City’s squad.
