Newcastle’s Teenage Star Lewis Miley Out for 12 Weeks with Injury

Newcastle United‘s promising young midfielder Lewis Miley is set to miss significant time due to a broken metatarsal.

The 18-year-old who impressed fans and critics alike with his performances last season will be sidelined for approximately 12 weeks. This injury rules him out of all pre-season training and matches including the highly anticipated tour of Japan. He could have been an off-the-bench player for Newcastle this season.

Miley’s injury occurred during a personal fitness run as he prepared for the new season. The young star is scheduled to undergo surgery on Monday to begin his recovery process.

Impact on the Upcoming Season

Miley’s absence is a significant blow for Newcastle United considering his vital contributions last season. The midfielder made 17 appearances in the Premier League and even featured in three Champions League games and scored once in the domestic league.

His earlier back injury at the end of the 2023-24 campaign already had the team cautious about his playtime. Newcastle’s manager Eddie Howe mentioned his careful management of Miley’s minutes due to his young age and ongoing development.

Howe’s plan was to see more of Miley in action during pre-season but those plans have now been disrupted.

Newcastle’s first league game is against Southampton on August 17 just under seven weeks away. Given the 12-week recovery timeline, Miley is expected to miss the start of the Premier League season.
