Nicolas Jackson to be handed a contract extension by Chelsea; confirms Enzo Maresca

Chelsea was held to a 1-1 draw by Crystal Palace on matchday two of the Premier League season. The Blues could not find the decisive goal at Stamford Bridge and are now struggling in the league table. One of the most interesting talking points from the game was the performance of Nicolas Jackson. The striker got himself on the scoresheet but was also guilty of missed opportunities later on.

Enzo Maresca, though. reassured his confidence in the player and stated that he will be signing a new contract soon. “I know he’s signing a new contract, I’m very happy. Nicolas is doing a fantastic job with us.” According to reports, the Senegalese is set to extend his stay at Chelsea for a further nine years. Jackson arrived at the club from Villarreal in 2023 and has since become the number-one choice as the centre forward.

Nicolas Jackson will be expected to enjoy a greater role under Enzo Maresca this season with the failed arrival of Victor Osimhen. Negotiations between Osimhen and Chelsea never progressed to the final stage despite the club’s uphill battle. Jackson’s imminent contract renewal reflects the trust and satisfaction among the club’s leaders with the 23-year-old.

Breaking down Nicolas Jackson’s career at Chelsea

Chelsea fans have not always been behind Nicolas Jackson. The former Villarreal man does tend to be shaky in front of goal. Despite that, he has scored 16 non-penalty goals during his time in the Premier League indicating that he is on the right path of progression. Jackson’s linkup play with the rest of the forward line has been tremendous so far, earning him praise from both Mauricio Pochettino and Enzo Maresca.

During this campaign, he has scored two goals already along with an assist in three games. He has the potential to convert the numbers into a substantial figure at the end of the season. Although his finishing does command improvement, Nicolas Jackson’s ability to drift wide and run in behind makes him one of the most attractive profiles to look forward to in the future. His statistics and importance will rise at Chelsea owing to a constant period of training and improvement.
